[1] Per Almgren was one of the founding members of JSK Sweden, an interest free credit society, which will be discussed in Chapter 4. He went on to found Nordiska Sparlan Ekonomisk Forening, which operates in Sweden in a similar way to JAK.

[2] While the term “Coolies”  may be seen as derogatory in the North, it is an acceptable term in India, which describes a particular group of people. In view of the fact that it appears in the title of my main case study, I wish to emphasis that it is used within this dissertation with all due respect and with no offence intended.
